Welcome Dr. Comeau
Congratulations to Dr. Fred Comeau! Dr. Comeau successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation, Concepts and Prediction Machines, the day before Christmas Eve. Fred's doctoral program is in Individual Interdisciplinary studies, with Computer Science as his home department (along with Psychology and Philosophy). Fred worked previously with Dr. David Scuse in Computer Science, and moved to our lab upon Dr. Scuse's retirement. We send best wishes to Fred as he moves further forward in industry.
Welcome Dr. Hosseinmemar
Dr. Amirhosssein Hosseinmemar successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation, "Push Recovery and Active Balancing for Inexpensive Humanoid Robots" on August 28, 2019. Everything went just as smoothly as we all expected it would. Congratulations, Dr. Hosseinmemar, we are all very proud of you!!! Here you can also see that Polaris has been retrofitted for some forthcoming musical activities. Stay Tuned! |
Fred Comeau, Ph.D. Candidate
Congratulations to Fred Comeau for successfully completing his Ph.D. Candidacy exam. Fred is an interdisciplinary Ph.D. student with CS as his home department, and his thesis research is in the area of Knowledge Representation, on Concepts and Prediction Machines. He came to our lab after the retirement of his original advisor, David Scuse.
FIRA HuroCup 2018
We just came back from FIRA RoboWorld Cup 2018 which was held in Taichung, Taiwan, August 6-12. We competed with both large (adult size) and small (kid size) robots led by Prof. John Anderson and Post-Doctoral Fellow Dr. Meng Cheng Lau with the four Computer Science Undergraduate Students who went to the competition, adult size: Mario Mendez Diaz and Li Buroi, kid size: Christian Melendez and Louis O’Connor. Other members who contributed and remained at the lab were CS PhD candidate Amirhossein Hosseinmemar, ECE M. Sc. student. Ziang (Daniel) Wang, and Undergraduate CS Students Chi Fung (Andy) Lun, Kurt Palo, and Bo Chen.
We placed just out of trophy range - fourth overall - in both leagues, by winning five awards in a range of events.
Adult Size Results:
- Moving Target Archery - 1st Place (New Event)
- Triple Jump - 1st Place (New Event)
- Basketball - 3rd Place
- Mini-DRC - 4th Place
- All-round - Fourth Place
Kid Size Results:
- Weightlifting- 2nd Place
- Triple Jump - 3rd Place (New Event)
- Moving Target Archery - 4th Place (New Event)
- Obstacle Run - 5th Place
- All-round - Fourth Place
